Other planned events: Aerial spraying operations
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a helicopter herbicide spraying operation between Monday 14 May and Friday 27 July 2018. The operation involves the spraying of Metsulfuron methyl 600WG for the control of bitou bush. The spraying will be carried out in the following areas:
  • Along headlands and beaches in Booti Booti and Myall Lakes National Parks
  • Corrie Island Nature Reserve
Aerial spraying is currently planned for the following dates and places:
  • Saturday 26 May 2018 – Bennett’s Beach (completed)
  • Tuesday 29 May 2018 – Mungo Beach south of Hole in the Wall, Corrie Island and Broughton Island.
  • Wednesday 30 May to Friday 1 June 2018 – Spraying unlikely due to forecast rain and strong winds, particularly along the coast.
For public safety, the areas being treated will be closed during spraying.
These closures will be temporary (usually for 1 day or less) and NPWS staff and/or temporary signage will be in place to indicate which areas are closed on any particular day. Traffic control will also be in place on Mungo Brush Road at times during this period. Please ensure you adhere to all warning signs and directions from NPWS staff.
Flying of drones in closed areas during aerial spraying operations is prohibited.
This notification will be updated on a regular basis. For further information, contact the NPWS Great Lakes area office on (02) 6591 0300.
