The Site: Hill End  

Where is it: Hill End is 75 kms from Bathurst via Turondale Road.

Highlights: History, gold mining, restaurants and food, camping, 4wd touring.

Facilities: Royal Hotel, General Store, Bill Lyle Reserve Picnic Area.

Bed & Breakfasts: Hosies, Royal Hotel.
Campgrounds: Village Campground, Glendora Campground.

Walks: Golden Gully Walking Track, Bald Hill Walking Track, Village Walking Track.
Lookouts: Beaufoy Merlin lookout, Bald Hill lookout.

Things to do nearby: Hill End Heritage Centre, Bald Hill Tourist Mine, Valentines Mine, Cornish Quartz Roasting Pits, Beyers Cottage. Great Western Store - Beaufoy Merlin's photographic collection.

4wd Attractions: From Bathurst there are a couple of ways to reach Hill End:
1. Travel north along Duramana Rd, then follow Turondale Road to Hill End Road, or follow the Bridle Track to Bruinbun, then Box Ridge Road to Turondale Road etc.

2. Instead of taking Duramana Road, follow Fremantle Road then Root Hog Road to cross the Macquarie River and join the Bridle Track to Hill End.

3. On Fremantle Road, before Root Hog Road, take Gowan Road, then Lewis Ponds Road to Ophir (historic site and gold fossicking area) then Lookout Road to Dixons Long Point Road to Tambaroora Road to Hill End. There is a long crossing of the Macquarie River with steep descent and ascent on Dixons Long Point Road.

From Hill End take the Hill End Road to Sofala, then continue on Upper Turon Road and follow it and the Turon River to the Castlereagh Highway and then to Capertee where there is a Hotel, Café and Toilet.
